When Sam Barris built the first lead sled from a 1949 Mercury Eight in 1949, the Eight became the definitive "lead sled" and one of the most customized cars ever. This special Mercury is the perfect example of the theme.
It has been customized without going to the extreme of a chopped and channeled body, thereby retaining hints of its originality and character. It retains the classic silhouette of the Eight sedan with its unique suicide doors. The one-of-a-kind Pearl White paint was applied by an award-winning paint shop and the "ghost" flames continue under the hood. Essential components have been modernized with safety and comfort in mind....a 350ci crate motor was installed featuring power steering and air conditioning. The reupholstered leather seats adjust electrically and there's a complement of auxiliary gauges for information.
Of course it wouldn't be a true lead sled without electrically operated exhaust cutouts and rear air suspension. This custom has been lovingly owned and professionally sorted by one of the area's top hot rod shops and only needs a new owner to be complete.
