Concours Restoration!
The 1948 Series 62 was the first all new Cadillac produced after World War II and represented the pinnacle of American quality at the time. It is most notable for its P-38-inspired tailfins that were one of Harley Earl's most lasting and emulated styling innovations. 1948 was also the last year for Cadillac's L-head V-8, an engine of 346 cubic inches and 150 horsepower that ceded little in performance to the 160hp overhead valve V-8 that Cadillac would introduce a year later.
This Series 62 Sedan was sold new at Sax Motors in Dickinson, North Dakota to a farmer who lived modestly, but loved driving a beautiful car. After his passing some years later, the car sat unused in one of the farm's outbuildings for many decades. Fast forward 50-odd years, and the farmer's great niece, having inherited the car, decided to commission a comprehensive restoration in order to return the blue beauty to the way it was when her great uncle owned it. Prior to passing to its current AZ owner, this car remained in single family ownership for 75 years!
Beginning with a largely complete example, Moslander's Rod & Custom in Monroe, WA was selected to perform the frame-off restoration. The car was totally disassembled and every part & component was cleaned, blasted, replated, and/or rebuilt to better-than-new condition. Along the line, subtle improvements were made in the interest of safety & improved drivability. Seat belts & remote locks were added, along with a more modern, smoother shifting automatic transmission, upgraded power brakes and a 12-volt alternator replacing the outdated 6 volt system. Receipts and other costs exceeded $140k, much more than the family intended to invest. However, they were very pleased w/the concours-quality result. They displayed the car at various local shows and were ultimately invited to the prestigious Kirkland Concours d'Elegance in 2012.
Three separate 3-ring binders accompany the car documenting its restoration, along with receipts and misc. Cadillac historical documents.
Much too nice to drive on a regular basis, the decision was made to sell the car to its current caretaker, who unfortunately has to sell due to other business interests. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of classic Americana in concours condition at a fraction of the restoration costs. Don't miss it!
